The crowd was significantly smaller than the first two days. Many were sleeping off their hangover. Some of the participants looked as if they should do the same. One poor soul had sunk - tub and all - before the race started, shouting curses at 'Longbottom repairs' as he went under.

The lifeboat crew had been replaced. He lived.

The weather was calm. The temperature was not too hot. The harbour smelled of piss.

The sound of a horn marked the start of the race.

Quote:Instructions for the race can be found here (under the spoiler). The finish line for this race lies at 100. Rolling an 8 or lower will result in a disaster of your choice that forces your character out of the race.

He was glad there was no way the priests would be there for the yacht race. He was certain he'd get the tub back before they even noticed, and if he won, even better right? He had no idea what the prize was but it had to be something good?

When the race started, he focused and rowed like he was running from his troubles and maybe it was the face he was eating sort of healthy thanks to the church, or maybe it was just that he was light but strong and the tub was good, but when Francis happened to glance around, no one was beside him. He looked back as he rowed and realized with shock and awe that he was in first!

This was totally unexpected but he hoped he could make it last. He gritted his teeth and rowed with all his strength. If he could win, just once, maybe he could show everyone how awesome he was.

A nice tub rushed past Mehmet, and he couldn’t even be angry.

The water was beautiful! The air, clear! The piss, minimal! Mehmet was rowing away contentedly, seeing if he could catch up to Murphy.

Lory was so. Damned. Tired. Two races and not a single first place. This time! This time she’d win!

Her ore hit a rock and she hissed out a most sinful word:

“Drat!”

Anita had her feet up on the rim of the tub, a drink in hand and a smile on her face. She coasted along on everyone else’s cresting waves, one ore hovering above water to give a lackadaisical push here and there.

Wearing a fashionable bathing suit, Athanasia sat in the expensive custom-made tub that had arrived only yesterday.  She had not had time to try it out, but she was certain that she would do well.  Her brother was not in attendance, as he disapproved of her participation in the race.  Wrinkling her nose at the foul smell of the harbor, she wondered if he had been right this time.

The horn sounded and the young woman began rowing energetically. Unfortunately, after about three minutes, another tub crashed into hers, causing her small vessel to wobble precariously.  The person who had hit her didn’t even stop to see if she was okay.

Athanasia screamed as her tub overturned.  The oar flew out of her hand and hit her in the head, knocking her out.  She was still unconscious when she floated to the surface.  Luckily for her, she was floating face up.

Ropati was still getting his bearings in the water, though mostly out of an abundance of caution. His tub of choice had been sponsored by one of the vineyards he worked with; apparently, they used to crush grapes in it but got an even bigger tub. It had since been painted with the vineyard’s branding.

A drunk woman teetered past, and into a small young woman’s tub. Before he could even think otherwise, Ropati was closing the distance and sweeping a large arm out for her. Though roughly in the moving vessel, he managed to get his arm under her waist in the first attempt.

“Ma’am!” he shouted, pulling her into the tub and setting her in front of him … leaving him with the predicament: forward or backward?

The waves chose for them, and even with both of their weights the tub hurtled forward.

Anita obliviously whacked Harry’s boat with her paddle on the way, before leaning back and settling into her tub.

Lory beat her oar through the water, teeth grit as she both surpassed and was surpassed.

Her cousin! She’d drown him, she would!

Soaring along, Ropati paused only to push his glasses up his nose and keep on. He had to finish this race, and get this woman to help!

… But he had to finish this race first! He was closer to the finish line than the coast and it would be dangerous to sail into all those other approaching tubs, right?

Mehmet was somewhere in the middle, and that was alright by him. Look at that sparkling water! He could barely even smell the piss any more!

He caught eye of a familiar fellow.

“Hey!” he shouted to Francis. “How’s the hosta!”

Athanasia woke suddenly, spitting water everywhere and feeling the urgent need to throw up. Gripping the sides of the tub, she leaned over the edge and hurled the water she had swallowed, plus her breakfast, into the water. With a long sigh, she sat back up, realizing that she was soaking wet. She was in a tub, but it wasn’t hers and it was moving but she wasn’t rowing. Confused, she looked back and saw an older man cutting through the waves with his oar.

“Who are you?” she asked a bit groggily. “And what am I doing in your tub?”

The young woman, uh, evacuated water and what looked like not-water over the side of the tub. He was thankful for her consideration even in her moment of distress, but he was also a man on a single-minded mission. His eyes stayed mostly forward, locked on the goal buoys.

“You’re alive!” Ropati howled, like he’d just seen a ghost, but followed up with a much more positive-sounding, “… you’re alive! Try to stay still!”

She’d stolen the best tub for herself! It was so pretty, a cheery lime-green that was kind of giving her a headache the longer she looked at it.

BOMP.

Soon she’d coast right to the finish line and--…. oh, wow, that was a big wave, but she didn’t see anything. Where was all that water coming from? What had she hit?

WHAT?! Her again!? His finger still hadn’t healed from last time!

Mehmet collided like a hockey puck into some other boat.

How were both these little brats ahead of her!?

Lory loosed her corset and put her back into it … straight into another wave.

The boy wasn't doing great, but he had a smile as he was trying to row the best he could, though he had little experience. As he was struggling to keep up, he was bumped and let out a sharp cry as the cheap tub rocked and a wave sent water in, tilting it more. He grabbed for the side but it was already flipping. He spluttered to the surface coughing and cursing up a storm as he dog paddled his best to get out of the cold water.

Athanasia had not meant to scare her rescuer, but it seemed like he had thought she was dead. She was shivering, she felt a bit nauseous and her head ached, but she was alive. “I’m fine … I think,” she replied. “And I’ll be so still that you won’t even know I’m here.” She would have offered to lighten the load and swim to shore if she had not been so dizzy.

She couldn’t look back to see what was happening behind her, but most of the competitors had not caught up with them yet. Her savior was a good rower. Though she would have liked to ask what had happened to her, she didn’t want to break his concentration.

There were only a few tubs ahead of them. “You’re doing really well,” she remarked.

“Maybe not that still,” Ropati said, eyes on the goal.

Last thing he wanted was to lose her and not even realize it.

There was a quizzical blink when she told him he was doing well. He hadn’t actually expected to, but this cheery little vineyard tub seemed to be holding up better than, uh, a bunch of them judging by the screams.

“Thankyou,” he managed to grit out in one exhale as he threw his back into it.

Hopefully that sounded friendlier than a rusty gear.
