"S-someone beat you worse?" She glanced up quickly. "I'm so sorry, ser. That's truly awful." Perhaps she shouldn't be surprised. This could be a horrible town after all.

Anthony didn't actually mean to admit that, but accidents happen. "Well– well, yeah, actually," he shrugged. Could this situation be any more awkward? "I guess that just means that you don't have to worry at all about what you did t'me, right?" Kind of.

"Oh but I did an awful thing," she was quick to admit. She had been drilled to find all her faults and be quick to accept the blame for them. "But I'm terribly sorry to hear. Did ye see a doctor, ser?"

Anthony frowned. "Well– well, no. I don't...go to the doctor," he stuttered. It was true, though – he never went to the doctor unless someone else basically forced him to. He immediately backtracked: "It's fine, though, I'm fine."

"Oh.... okay..." She observed him as if trying to make out whether he was really fine.

Anthony clicked his tongue, breaking the awkward silence between them. "...Yeah. I'm fine. Like I said I was." Saying that only served to make him seem not fine. Which, to be fair, was true, but it wasn't what he wanted anyone to think.

Anne nodded awkwardly. "Sorry..." she said again. Not sure what to do, she finally picked up the lines again. "I'm... happy you're friends with Elijah."

Anthony nodded as well. There was nothing that would fix this awkwardness between them. He looked uncomfortable at the mention of Elijah, but didn't say anything about that. "Right. I'm...happy to be his friend too. Kind of." He wasn't really sure, anymore.

Anne frowned. He liked Elijah, didn't he? Poor Elijah seemed to have few other friends than her family, and even Anne had to admit they might to more harm than good. Father loved Elijah like a son, but over the past few years, they had also argued a lot, and Anne knew that she and her siblings were not as good as they ought to be. "Erm..." It wasn't her place to ask. Awkward. "I.... hope you heal soon." Was that the appropriate thing to say?

Anthony was now looking more forward to their conversation ending than he had before. He looked away from Anne as the latter spoke yet again. "Yeah. Thanks." Awkward.
